BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei will illuminate several locations including the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Bridge and the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium with golden yellow lights until Wednesday (Oct 1), in conjunction with the 22nd International Day of Older Persons 2025.

The lighting at these locations will take place over two nights from 7pm to midnight. The initiative aims not only to commemorate the contributions of older persons to national development, but also to pay tribute and express appreciation to them.

According to the Community Development Department, the golden yellow colour is chosen as the official theme colour for the International Day of Older Persons celebration to symbolise older persons entering their golden years.

It is also to reflect their wealth of experience and knowledge, which can serve as guidance for younger generations in life.

As a gesture of support and participation in this initiative, the public is encouraged to take photographs of locations illuminated with golden yellow lights and upload them on social media using the hashtag #HAWE2025.

It is hoped that this initiative will raise public awareness on the importance of appreciating, protecting and supporting older persons in aspects of family care and well-being. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
