PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence has firmly rejected allegations from Thailand claiming that Cambodian forces deployed drones along the two countries’ shared border.

In a statement released this morning, ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata described the accusations as “unfounded and baseless,” stressing that such claims misrepresent the truth and risk inflaming tensions between the two nations.

“These false accusations not only escalate tensions but also severely affect mutual trust between both parties,” the ministry said.

The statement clarified that Cambodia has not flown any drones into Thai sovereign territory, urging Bangkok to respect previously agreed principles to avoid spreading misinformation or false claims.

Phnom Penh emphasized that maintaining constructive dialogue is crucial to reducing tensions, preventing negative public perception, and ensuring progress in peace talks.

The ministry also reaffirmed Cambodia’s “firm commitment” to the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28, 2025, in Putrajaya, Malaysia.

It highlighted that both sides had pledged to fully implement and honor all agreements made under the framework of the General Border Committee (GBC) and the Regional Border Committee (RBC).

Since the August 7, 2025, GBC meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Cambodia and Thailand have held continuous discussions aimed at ensuring compliance with the ceasefire and avoiding renewed clashes.

“The Ministry of National Defence remains committed to peace, stability, and cooperation, and calls on the Thai side to work together in building trust and fostering an environment conducive to diplomatic dialogue,” the statement concluded.

The latest exchange comes as both countries continue delicate negotiations over border security following flare-ups earlier this year. - Khmer Times
