Brunei records over 427,000 tourist arrivals from Malaysia in 2024; among the top three visitors to Asean country

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei recorded a total of 427,536 tourist arrivals from Malaysia via land and sea in 2024, official data showed.

Malaysia has consistently ranked among the top three sources of tourist arrivals to Brunei.

As part of efforts to strengthen tourism cooperation, Brunei's Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism recently hosted a networking session with travel industry players from Malaysia's state of Sabah.

Meanwhile, in another development, a senior official said the Brunei Infocommunication Technology Award (BICTA) has been an important platform in promoting healthy competition and innovation among individuals, students, and organizations across both the public and private sectors.

Brunei's success in hosting the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) awards in 2024 was also a meaningful achievement, as it strengthened the country's position and inspired further efforts to enhance the quality of BICTA in the future, said Mohammad Nazri Mohammad Yusof, the permanent secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications, at the BICTA 2025 ceremony.

He said BICTA 2025 maintains the theme of "Smart Nation through Digital Transformation," which emphasises innovation and the exploration of new technologies, in line with Brunei's efforts to build digital ecosystems that can drive economic growth and improve community well-being.

The success of staging the event, said the official, will pull in more tourists and visitors to the country for business and leisure. - Xinhua
