MANILA: Two suspects linked to the February kidnapping of a 14-year-old Chinese student in Taguig City have been arrested by authorities in Pasay City on Sept 3, according to the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG).
In a report presented during a press briefing on Monday, AKG spokesperson Maj Eleonor N. Villaruz identified the suspects as alias Marv and Tatang, both Filipino residents of Pasay City.
Their arrest stemmed from a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 153 of Taguig City for kidnapping with homicide with no recommended bail.
Authorities reported that the missing victim was found along Macapagal Avenue in Parañaque City on the evening of Feb 25. The 14-year-old student was reunited with his father and brought to a private hospital in Taguig City for a medical examination.
The Chinese was last seen in Taguig City on Feb 20, after he was dismissed from his school and picked up by his driver, but did not make it home.
Reports revealed that the vehicle used to pick up the Chinese was subsequently found abandoned along C5 Road.
Police said the driver was initially a suspect but was found dead in another vehicle in San Rafael town, Bulacan province on Feb 21.
During the time the victim was missing, the suspected captors demanded US$20 million for his release, but it was later downgraded to US$1 million until no ransom was paid.
The father of the victim was linked to the Philippine offshore gaming operator industry, according to PNP public information chief Col Randulf Tuano. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
