Brunei minister outlines initiatives towards a resilient environment at UN forum

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Brunei has outlined initiatives to achieve a resilient environment that supports the Brunei Vision 2035 and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a government minister has said.

Brunei continues to advance sustainable waste management through three main strategies, including waste minimization, public awareness and empowerment, and the adoption of Waste-to-Resource technology, Haji Muhammad Juanda Abdul Rashid, the minister of Development of Brunei, said on Wednesday.

The Minister said Brunei's other ongoing initiatives include the Eco Food Waste Initiative, No Plastic Bag Everyday Initiative, Plastic Bottle Free Initiative, Coastal Marvel National Cleanup Campaign, nationwide Recycling Day, and the Bring Your Own Reusable campaign.

Brunei has charted a clear course toward a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

For the record, the Brunei government has also set an aspiration for net-zero emissions by 2050. - Xinhua
