MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr, on Monday (Aug 25), National Heroes Day, vowed that his administration will hold accountable those involved in corruption and will not let disrespect to the nation happen again.

In his speech during the holiday’s commemoration at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City, Marcos said that along with the passage of time comes the emergence of new challenges that the country must face.

“We need to focus not only on strengthening our defense to safeguard our freedom. We also need to combat the threat of corruption and abuse of power in our society,” he said in Filipino.

“Because they are not only stealing money, but also the health, dreams, and future of succeeding generations of Filipinos,” Marcos added.

This, he noted, is also an opportunity to awaken the awareness of the youth about their duty to the nation.

“And to this end, this is the promise of your government: We will not abandon you.”

“We will hold accountable all those involved in anomalies and corruption. We will reveal the full and complete truth. And we will ensure that the lack of respect and concern for the people will not be repeated,” he stressed.

Marcos’ promise is in line with the government’s ongoing crackdown on officials involved in flood-control project irregularities.

This year’s National Heroes Day celebration is anchored with the theme “Isang Diwa, Isang Lahi, Isang Bayanihan.”
