BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah will hold a state visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 26 and attend the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Brunei and Malaysia, which will be held on August 27.
During the state visit, His Majesty will have an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia. His Majesty will then meet with Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the 26th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Brunei and Malaysia.
The Annual Consultation between the Heads of Government of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, which has been held since 1997, is an important forum for both countries to hold discussions to examine existing bilateral cooperation, as well as explore potential collaboration in new areas.
The consultations are held on a rotating basis, with Brunei chairing the 25th Annual Consultation on August 26, 2024.
His Majesty’s last state visit to Malaysia was on August 2 to 4, 2023 in conjunction with the 24th Annual Leaders’ Consultation between Brunei and Malaysia. Brunei and Malaysia established diplomatic relations in 1984 and enjoy excellent bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, education, defence, health and people-to-people exchanges.
The two countries also work closely at the regional and international levels, through Asean, the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the United Nations. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
