BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Themed ‘Innovate Tomorrow’, the curtains were raised for the three-day TechXpo 2025 on Thurday (Aug 14) with a grand opening ceremony by Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Shamhary Mustapha.

The opening marked the official start of the event at the International Convention Centre, Berakas, which runs until Friday.

It is jointly organised by the Infocom Federation Brunei (IFB) and managed by D’Sunlit Sdn Bhd, with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC).

The ceremony began with welcoming remarks from IFB chairwoman Sarimah Abdul Latif, who highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation and digital transformation in realising Brunei Darussalam’s vision of becoming a Smart Nation.

“This is more than just a gathering – this is where visionaries like you redefine the boundaries of possibilities,” said the chairwoman, adding that the theme isn’t just a call to action but a challenge.

A symbolic launch was then officiated by the minister, marking the start of an exhibition set to showcase groundbreaking innovations from local and international technology leaders.

The opening ceremony continued with two keynote addresses, the first by Unified National Networks (UNN) Sdn Bhd Acting Chief Executive Officer Christopher Phan on ‘Building Blocks and Enablers for Digital Transformation’, underscoring the critical infrastructure needed to accelerate Brunei’s digital journey.

The second keynote was delivered by Huawei International Pte Ltd Executive Vice President of ICT Marketing and Solutions Qi Wei, who shared insights into Huawei’s commitment to empowering the digital economy.

The ceremony concluded with a group photo session after which the guest of honour toured the exhibition.

The expo offers a vibrant programme including the NextWave Startup and Innovation Showcase, an e-sports tournament co-organised by the E-sports Association of Brunei and artificial intelligence workshops by Universiti Teknologi Brunei.

Visitors can also join an interactive scavenger hunt by scanning QR codes around the venue to redeem a prize, and look forward to a grand lucky draw featuring prizes such as XReal Air 2 Ultra AR Glasses and an Ebo Air 2 Plus Companion Robot. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
