Myanmar holds State funeral for late acting President U Myint Swe

YANGON: The state funeral for Acting President U Myint Swe was held on Monday (Aug 11) afternoon at the Tatmadaw General Hospital’s Nyein Aye Zayat Hall and the Naypyidaw Military Cemetery.

Senior monks, including the Mandalay Masoeyein Monastery’s Sayadaw Bhaddanta Vaselabhivamsa, attended the ceremony, along with Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission and Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and his wife, former President U Thein Sein, former Vice Presidents Thiha Thura Tin Aung Myint Oo and U Nyan Tun, senior military officers, ministers, officials, diplomats from several countries, and the bereaved family.

After religious rites and offerings, the coffin was carried with full military honours, including a gun salute, from the hospital to the cemetery. Along the route, military personnel, civil servants, and members of the public paid their respects.

At the cemetery, the Commander-in-Chief read the official order, and military salutes were performed before the cremation. Foreign ambassadors, military attachés, and officials paid their final tributes.

Following cremation, U Myint Swe’s ashes were placed in an urn by his son, Captain Kyaw Phone Myint (Retd), and interred at the family mausoleum, where relatives and officials paid their final respects. - Eleven Media/ANN
