NEW DELHI: In the latest case of sexual abuse of minors, a 15-year-old girl, a 10th standard student, was allegedly gang-raped by five people, including one of her close relatives, in a village in Odisha’s Kendrapara district.

The shocking incident, according to the complaint lodged by the rape survivor, occurred on the Raksha Bandhan function on Aug 9.

The relative, who had visited the victim’s house, had taken her to a temple in the nearby village on a motorcycle, on which she pillion rode.

Later, the accused, instead of taking her to her destination, took her to a deserted place where she was allegedly raped.

The victim’s nightmarish ordeal was prolonged further as four other people, who were near the spot, raped her in turns.

The crime was pre-planned, while the victim did not suspect foul play in the ploy devised by the principal accused.

The accused later left her at the deserted spot with the principal accused, who was a close relative, threatening her with dire consequences if she revealed the en masse sexual assault inflicted upon her, police said, quoting the contents of the First Information Report.

However, the victim later confided the sequence of sexual torture and harrowing ordeal she experienced during the evening hours of the Raksha Bandhan.

The complaint was lodged by the victim on Monday evening. Acting swiftly, police apprehended all the five accused persons, named in the FIR.

They are currently under detention and are being quizzed.

The rape survivor, besides the alleged accused persons, will be medically examined, said a senior police official.

A case has been registered, police said, adding that further investigation of the case is underway. - The Statesman/ANN
