Philippine President Marcos Jr to visit US on Sunday (July 20) amid Trump's 20 per cent tariffs

MOSCOW: (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to visit Washington DC from Sunday (July 20) to Tuesday (July 22) to meet with US President Donald Trump, with discussions focusing on announced 20 per cent tariffs on Philippine imports, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

This will be the first visit by an Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) head of state since Trump took office.

The countries' leaders will discuss cooperation in the economic sphere, including Trump’s recently announced 20 per cent tariffs on all Philippines imports.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss closer defence and security cooperation, especially the situation in the South China Sea.

The Philippine president is also set to meet with US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.
