Three killed, and 25 injured in attack by KNLA and PDF in southern central Myanmar

YANGON: In Wegyi (South) village, Phyu Township, Bago Region, an attack by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People's Defence Force (PDF) using heavy and small arms resulted in three deaths, including children, and 25 injuries, according to reports.

The incident occurred around 5:20 AM on June 29 when KNLA and PDF forces launched an assault on Wegyi (South) village with various weapons before retreating toward Thaung Pu village.

During the attack, three villagers—Maung Zwe Pyae (seven years old), Daw Khin Aye Su (56), and Daw Thida Oo (35)—were killed by shrapnel wounds from explosive blasts. Additionally, 25 others suffered injuries from explosions and gunfire.

The deceased and injured were transported to Phyu Township People’s Hospital for necessary medical treatment.

Security forces, in collaboration with responsible civilians, are intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend the KNLA and PDF members involved in targeting non-military residential areas. Measures are being taken to restore stability and protect the lives and property of civilians in the region. - Eleven Media/ANN
