Seven bridges along Chao Phraya River in Thailand to be illuminated for Queen Suthida's birthday celebration

BANGKOK: The Department of Rural Roads (DRR) will illuminate seven bridges crossing the Chao Phraya River from June 2-4, 2025, in honour of the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana on Tuesday (June 3).

This display is a gesture of loyalty and gratitude for Her Majesty's benevolent reign.

The illuminated bridges in the Bangkok metropolitan area will include:

- Maha Chesadabodindranusorn Bridge

- Krung Thon Bridge (Sang Hi)

- Memorial Bridge

- Phra Pok Klao Bridge

- King Taksin the Great Bridge

- Bhumibol 1 Bridge

- Bhumibol 2 Bridge

The lights will be on from 7pm to 10pm on June 2-4, and from 7pm to 12am on June 3, which marks the Queen’s birthday.

This initiative aims to create a festive atmosphere, enhancing the beauty of the Chao Phraya River at night, the department said.

It will also promote tourism along the river, offering the public a chance to take boat rides and enjoy the magnificent view, illuminated by the bridge lights, while experiencing the local culture and lifestyle along the riverbank.

Separately, The Nation also reported that the Bureau of the Royal Household announced on Thursday (May 29) that the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram (Wat Phra Kaew) in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon District will be closed all day on June 3 due to the royal birthday celebrations of Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.

Meanwhile, the Bureau also announced a partial opening of the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew on June 1 from 8.30am to 12pm.

However, entry to the main ordination hall (Phra Ubosot) will be restricted during this time.

The partial opening is to allow the auspicious consecration ceremony of the royal commemorative medal in honor of the King’s 6th cycle (72nd) birthday celebration on July 28, 2024. - The Nation/ANN
