Four killed and three injured as train collides with motorcycles in Indonesia's East Java

JAKARTA (Xinhua): Four people were killed and three others injured after an inter-city train struck seven motorcycles allegedly crossing a railway track in Indonesia's East Java province on Monday, local police said.

The accident occurred at a crossing in Barat area of Magetan at around 1 p.m. local time during rainy weather.

Barat Police Chief Munif Setiyono confirmed that all victims had been evacuated and taken to nearby hospitals, adding that authorities were still investigating the cause of the crash.

"We are still investigating this and gathering witness statements," he said.

Land transport accidents are frequent in Indonesia. In 2010, a train collision in Central Java claimed more than 30 lives, marking one of the deadliest incidents in recent years. - Xinhua
