VIENTIANE: Laos has launched a new system to resolve e-commerce disputes quickly and fairly, aimed at protecting online buyers and sellers amid the rapid and ongoing growth of electronic commerce.

The initiative, titled "Strengthening E-Commerce Dispute Settlement Processes in Laos," was officially launched here on Tuesday (May 13), according to the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce on Wednesday (May 14).

The initiative aims to develop an online system for receiving complaints and resolving disputes related to e-commerce.

It also aims to boost consumer confidence, support small businesses, and improve cooperation between the public and private sectors.

A key feature of the initiative is the introduction of an Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) system.

The ODR system will help reduce the cost and time needed to resolve disputes, creating a safer environment for online trade.

The project includes forming a coordination committee, drafting an action plan, training across three regions of Laos, and conducting regular evaluations.

The project is a crucial step in building a robust online trade environment in Laos, aimed at boosting confidence among buyers and sellers.
