Royal audience in Brunei for Malaysian Chief of Defence Force and spouse

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on Thursday (May 8) received in audience Chief of Defence Force, Malaysian Armed Forces General Datuk Mohd Nizam Jaffar. The Audience Ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.

Accompanying General Mohd Nizam were High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei Darussalam Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, and senior officials from Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF).

In a separate audience, Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Mohamed Alam also received in audience spouse of the Chief of Defence Force, Malaysian Armed Forces Datin Risia Sheikh Ali Omar Bajarai, accompanied by her daughter, Sheikha Ajlaa Mohd Nizam.

Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia have maintained close and cordial diplomatic relations since January 1984, where defence cooperation was formally established through the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation signed on 14 February 1992.

This visit signifies a mutual commitment to underscoring ongoing close cooperation through various bilateral and multilateral defence collaborations, including security operations under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

It also reflects shared efforts to upholding Asean centrality as a cornerstone for regional unity and stability.

This visit marks General Mohd Nizam’s first visit to Brunei Darussalam since his appointment as Chief of Defence Force, Malaysian Armed Forces, on Jan 31.

He is on a three-day official visit to Brunei Darussalam from Tuesday (May 6) to Thursday (May 8). - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
