Laos sees 162 per cent rise in tourist arrivals Q1 2025

VIENTIANE: Northern Laos' Luang Prabang province welcomed 1,167,581 tourists in the first three months of 2025, marking a 162 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024, Lao National Radio reported on Wednesday (April 23).

In the January-March period, Luang Prabang welcomed 459,091 domestic visitors, a 183 percent increase from last year, and 708,490 international visitors, up 232 percent, generating over 584 million U.S. dollars in revenue, said the report.

In 2024, the province welcomed 2.3 million tourists, exceeding its annual target by 30.8 percent, generating over 1 billion dollars in revenue.

Authorities in Luang Prabang province hope to attract at least 2.3 million visitors in 2025, targeting more than 1.2 billion dollars in revenue.

Luang Prabang province, some 220 km north of the capital Vientiane, is one of the most well-known provinces in Laos and a top tourist destination for its old temples, scenic attractions and rural landscapes.

The Lao government has recognized tourism as a key economic sector, emphasizing its role in job creation, income generation, and foreign currency inflows, significantly contributing to the country's economic and social development. - Xinhua
