SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/ANN): The 22-year-old who ran naked in Hougang after slashing a man who was with his young son has been charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.

R. Nadhiban is accused of using a knife to slash one Kaalithasan Govindaragi on April 17 at about 1pm at the open space car park between blocks 676 and 677, Hougang Avenue 8.

Nadhiban was ordered to be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for medical examination. His case will be before the courts again on May 2.

The incident was witnessed by several members of the public who saw a naked man attack a father, who was with his three-year-old son.

The 30-year-old victim sustained injuries on his arm and was taken to a hospital.

In an earlier statement, police said the outcome could have been worse if not for a member of the public, Mr Shari Mohd, who intervened to move the victim and his son from the attacker.

After attacking the victim, the naked man damaged a parked vehicle before he picked up a wooden plank with nails and used it to damage a stationary bus in Hougang Avenue 4.

Police arrived soon after but as they moved in to arrest him, the man attacked them with the wooden plank, which resulted in three officers sustaining minor injuries.

Those convicted of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons may face imprisonment of up to seven years and caning. - The Straits Times/ANN
