SINGAPORE: Residents can expect warm weather with thundery rains in the second half of April, the weatherman said.

The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said on Wednesday (April 16) that short thundery showers are expected over parts of the island in the afternoon on most days.

On some days, the showers may extend into the evening.

The Sumatra squalls may also bring widespread thundery showers and gusty wind during the pre-dawn hours and morning on a few days.

The daily maximum temperatures are likely to range between 33 deg C and 34 deg C on most days, with highs of around 35 deg C on a few days.

Downpours have drenched Singapore since the start of April, and was especially heavy on April 13 when 117mm of rainfall was recorded around the Yishun Ring Road area, said the MSS.

It was the highest daily rainfall recorded for the first half of the month.

Despite rain on most days in the first fortnight of April, there were nine days when the mercury hit 34 deg C or more, with the highest daily maximum temperature of 36.2 deg C recorded at Paya Lebar on April 12.

The hottest weather ever seen in Singapore – at 37 deg C – was in Ang Mo Kio and Tengah on May 13, 2023, and April 17, 1983, respectively.

Most parts of Singapore received above-average rainfall in the first half of April, with Yio Chu Kang Road registering rainfall around 217 per cent above average, while Kranji Reservoir saw rainfall that was 9 per cent below average, the MSS said. - The Straits Times/ANN
