SINGAPORE: A 37-year-old man is to be charged in court on Monday (April 7), after he allegedly stole from several shops at Changi Airport.
The police said on Sunday (April 6) that they were alerted on March 23 about a missing handbag from a shop in the airport’s transit area.
Officers from the Airport Police Division then identified the man, an Indian national, through ground enquiries and CCTV footage.
The man was detained within 30 minutes of the report, preventing him from leaving Singapore.
The police said their preliminary investigations showed that the man was believed to be involved in several shop theft cases involving items such as watches, shirts, chocolates, and accessories from four other shops.
The value of the items totalled over S$1,670.
He is slated to be charged with theft in dwelling, and faces jail time of up to seven years, a fine, or both, if convicted.
There has been at least five reported theft cases committed in Changi Airport so far in 2025.
The most recent case involved a woman who was arrested on the suspicion of stealing bottles of perfumes from two shops on March 15. - The Straits Times/ANN
