Laos launches coal-fired power plant project in Xekong province

VIENTIANE: Lao Deputy Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith presided over a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday (April 2) for a coal-fired power plant project in southern Laos' Xekong province, which will have a total capacity of 1,800 megawatts across six 300-megawatt plants.

The electricity generated will be exported to Cambodia under a power purchase agreement with the state-owned electricity company in Cambodia, the Ministry of Energy and Mines said on Thursday.
