VIENTIANE: Lao Airlines State Enterprise has added a Comac C909 jet to its fleet, marking a new chapter in the national carrier’s commitment to improved passenger experience and regional air connectivity.

Speaking at a press conference in Vientiane on Monday (March 31), the managing director of Lao Airlines, Viengxay Singkham, highlighted the significance of the introduction of the Chinese-made C909, which is registered as RDPL-34229.

Acquired through a lease agreement with the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (Comac), the aircraft is expected to enhance both domestic and international operations.

He said “The introduction of the C909 represents a major step forward in our efforts to provide safe, efficient, and comfortable travel for our passengers.”

“This aircraft, configured with 90 economy class seats, proudly bears our blue and white livery, adorned with the national emblem, the champa flower, symbolising the identity and spirit of Lao Airlines.”

The C909 will initially be deployed on key domestic routes, including services between Vientiane and Pakxe, as well as between Vientiane and Savannakhet. Plans are in place to expand operations to additional destinations, particularly in China.

The inaugural commercial flight is scheduled for April 12, pending final regulatory approval from the Civil Aviation Department.

Lao Airlines’ partnership with Comac extends beyond the aircraft acquisition. The Chinese manufacturer is also providing comprehensive support services to ensure that operational standards meet stringent international safety regulations.

“This milestone event is a testament to the strong cooperation between Lao Airlines and Comac, underpinned by the strategic partnership between Laos and China,” Viengxay said.

“We believe that this aircraft’s advanced design and spacious seating will provide our passengers with an enhanced travel experience.”

Viengxay also expressed his appreciation to the key figures who contributed to the successful acquisition and introduction of the C909, extending gratitude to Comac, Lao Airlines staff, and government agencies involved in the process.
