JAKARTA, (Bernama): Muslims in Indonesia will celebrate Eid (Hari Raya Aidilfitri) on Monday, Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar announced on Saturday night.

At a press conference held at the ministry, he confirmed that 1 Syawal 1446 Hijri will fall on March 31, 2025.

The announcement followed the conclusion of the Isbat conference (the meeting to determine the date of Syawal), which involved ministry officials, the Indonesian Ulema Council, astronomers, and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives, as well as representatives from embassies in Indonesia.

Also present was the Religious Attaché at the Malaysian Embassy, Mohd Shamsuri Ghazali.

"Tonight, Tarawih prayers will still be performed across Indonesia. We hope that as a result of this meeting, all Muslims in Indonesia can joyfully celebrate Eid," he said.

Muslims in the republic began fasting on 1 March.

Indonesia is the country with the world's largest Muslim majority, with 87 per cent of its more than 282 million people adhering to Islam. - Bernama
