BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) launched the Maritime Single Window (MSW) on Wednesday (March 26), a digital platform designed to streamline and expedite the submission and approval process of port clearance documentation.

Minister of Transport and Infocommunications Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary Pengiran Dato Paduka Mustapha, who is also MPABD Chairman, launched the MSW.

The project aimed to enhance efficiency for stakeholders and facilitate a more seamless and transparent experience within the maritime industry.

MPABD Chief Executive Captain (Rtd) Zil Husam i Abdul Rahman highlighted the launch of the MSW as a milestone in the Sultanate’s continued digital transformation journey.

“Today, we take a major step forward in transforming the way ship clearance processes are conducted in Brunei Darussalam,” said the chief executive.

“The implementation of the MSW, as mandated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic, allows for the electronic submission, processing, and approval of port clearance information – all through a single online platform.”

He added, “Following the successful implementation of Phase 1, the upcoming Phase 2 of MPABD’s Digital Transformation initiative will focus on the full digitalisation and centralisation of all MPABD services.

“This includes vessel registration, licensing, maritime training, financial systems, and online payments, all of which are scheduled to go live during the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week, on Sept 29.”

The launch of the MSW reinforces MPABD’s strong commitment to leveraging digital innovation in maritime operations, while advancing the sector’s efficiency, transparency, and global competitiveness.

The ceremony concluded with a live demonstration of the MSW system. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
