SINGAPORE: A man was charged in court on Thursday (March 13) with murdering his younger brother at a Housing Board flat in Boon Lay.

Abdul Rani Md Ariffin, 58, is accused of murdering Abdul Rahman Mohamad Ariffin, 57, at about 4am on March 11 at Block 187 Boon Lay Avenue.

On March 13, Abdul Rani appeared in court via video link, and the prosecution asked the court for him to be remanded at Changi Medical Complex for medical examination.

The prosecution also applied for permission to seek an evaluation for Abdul Rani at the Institute of Mental Health to determine if he had any mental health issues impacting him when he committed the alleged offence.

Speaking in Malay, Abdul Rani said he understood and that he had nothing else to say.

The judge granted the application for remand and the case was adjourned to April 3.
