Thai police hunt 17 suspects in Sungai Golok bomb attack

NARATHIWAT, (Thailand): (Bernama) Thai police are pursuing 17 individuals suspected of being involved in a bomb and shooting attack at the Sungai Golok District Office last Saturday (March 8).

Region 9 Chief Police Lieutenant General Piyawat Chalermsi said police had identified 17 individuals linked to the attack, which resulted in the deaths of two defence volunteers.

"Based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene, police have determined that 17 individuals are suspected of involvement in the attack on March 8.

"Police have also discovered three vehicles, including a four-wheel drive, used in the attack. A thorough investigation is underway to identify the owners of these vehicles," he told reporters here on Wednesday (March 12).

He added that all the suspects linked to last Saturday’s attack had prior criminal records and were wanted by the police under active arrest warrants.

Piyawat stated that police are intensifying efforts to track down all suspects while also strengthening security measures to reassure both local residents and tourists.

Last Saturday, a series of bomb explosions and shootings in Narathiwat and Pattani provinces claimed five lives and injured 13 others. - Bernama
