Indonesian President replaces aide in first Cabinet reshuffle

JAKARTA: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto named Brian Yuliarto (pic) as the new higher education, science and technology minister in his first cabinet reshuffle after taking office last year.

Yuliarto, a professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology, replaced Satryo Brodjonegoro, according to an official live stream of the announcement on Wednesday (Feb 19).

The shake-up may give an insight into how Prabowo handles controversies among his ministers, with Satryo’s ouster coming after some employees at the ministry reportedly protested his leadership in January. Satryo is a brother of former finance minister Bambang Brodjonegoro, who is now the president’s special economic adviser.

The president has enjoyed broad support since his election and continues to roll out populist policies, like free meals at schools and free health checks. He also pared back an unpopular sales-tax hike. - Bloomberg
