NAY PYI TAW: Chairman of the State Administration Council (SAC) and Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing met with Indian humanitarian leader and peace envoy Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to discuss Myanmar’s political developments and peace efforts.
The meeting took place on the morning of February 9 at the Credentials Hall of the SAC Chairman’s Office in Nay Pyi Taw. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was accompanied by Joint SAC Secretary General Ye Win Oo, SAC member Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, and Union Ministers U Than Swe and U Tin Oo Lwin. The Indian peace envoy was joined by members of his delegation.
During the discussions, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing welcomed Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s visit, acknowledging his global peace efforts. He expressed appreciation for the envoy’s willingness to support Myanmar’s peace and prosperity.
Both parties engaged in an open dialogue about Myanmar’s political developments since independence, the ethnic armed conflicts rooted in historical distrust and ongoing peace initiatives.
The discussions also covered Myanmar’s transition towards democracy in 2011, the Tatmadaw’s assumption of state responsibilities following the 2020 general election disputes, and the subsequent rise in unrest.
The Senior General highlighted the SAC’s efforts in promoting national peace, stability, and progress, while also exploring potential contributions from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar towards Myanmar’s peace process. Additionally, preparations for a free and fair multiparty democratic general election were discussed.
Following the meeting, both leaders exchanged commemorative gifts and posed for a group photograph. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also gave Sri Sri Ravi Shankar a tour of the Hall of Honour at the SAC Chairman’s Office, showcasing various paintings. - Eleven Media/ANN
