BEIJING: (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) On Monday (Feb 10), China will impose additional tariffs of 15 per cent on coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States, as well as 10 per cent on a number of other American goods, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

Earlier, Beijing announced that additional tariifs would be imposed on some goods imported from the US from Feb 10, including 15 per cent tariff on LNG and 10 per cent on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large-capacity vehicles and pickup trucks.

These measures followed Washington's similar actions.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump signed executive orders to impose tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China.

Tariffs of 10 per cent are being introduced on goods from China in addition to those already in effect on Chinese imports from the US.

The decrees also repealed the de minimis rule, which allowed goods worth less than US$800 to be imported into the US without paying tariffs.

As Bai Ming, deputy director of the International Institute for Marketing Research at the Chinese Commerce Ministry, told Sputnik/RIA Novosti earlier, a new round of the trade war between the world's two largest economies "has already begun".

According to Bai Ming, the countermeasures that Beijing has introduced against Washington in response to the increase in tariffs on Chinese imports precisely hit key areas of the US and minimise damage to China.
