Laos focuses on strengthening mining sector and improve projects in 2025


VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos' Ministry of Energy and Mines, along with other stakeholders, has been discussing plans to improve investment quality and effectiveness in mining projects for 2025.

Ministry officials, key stakeholders, provincial leaders, and representatives from relevant ministries and mining companies gathered in the capital Vientiane from Monday to Tuesday to review progress in 2024 and plans for 2025.

The meeting identified successes and challenges. Additionally, the participants discussed ways to enhance coordination among ministries, departments and local authorities, according to Lao National Radio.

Lao Minister of Energy and Mines Phoxay Sayasone highlighted challenges faced by the mining sector in 2024, including economic difficulties, fiscal constraints, rising fuel prices, fluctuating exchange rates and project delays.

He said that despite these obstacles, the mining sector achieved significant progress. - Xinhua
