Cooperation in combating telecom fraud bears fruit in Lancang-Mekong countries

PHNOM PENHG/ KUNMING (Xinhua): Six Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) countries have achieved fruitful results in combating telecommunication fraud, firearm smuggling and other criminal activities.

Through jointly carrying out an operation from August to December last year, law-enforcement agencies from Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam cracked down on over 160 cases mainly involving telecommunication fraud.

Police have also arrested over 70,000 criminal suspects and rescued more than 160 victims, according to the Lancang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center.

Representatives from the six countries met on Tuesday in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, to mark the fruitful operation.

In another development, the Laos' Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism will collaborate with partners to improve service quality in the tourism sector.

An agreement was signed between the ministry's Institute of Media, Culture and Tourism, Pan-Mekong International Economic Development (Laos) Sole Co., Ltd., and China's Jiangsu Vocational College of Information Technology, to strengthen cultural and tourism cooperation between Laos and China.

The agreement outlines key areas, including educational and tourism exchanges to foster academic collaboration between Laos and China.

Other initiatives include Chinese language training for tour guides and skill enhancement for hotel, guesthouse and restaurant operators.

The collaboration will set a new standard for tourism services in Laos and support the sector's sustainable growth. - Xinhua
