Former Miss Planet Cambodia give reasons for shock withdrawal from contest

PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): The former Miss Planet Cambodia 2024, Det Sreyneat, has spoken of the reasons behind her shock withdrawal from the final of Miss Planet International 2024, on the eve of the final.

Det suddenly announced she would not be representing Cambodia, in a now deleted social media post of the 27th of November – the day before the final, which was held in Phnom Penh.

Organisers quickly replaced her with runner-up Khon Sovansonita, who stated that she ‘will commit to represent Cambodia on the international stage in the next few hours.’

In a five-minute video, Ms. Det stated that she has a clear goal to represent Cambodia to promote Cambodian culture and civilization to the world since taking office.

She added that she is dedicated to spending time and personal money to do charity work and videotaping at various tourist sites, as well as filming and promoting civilization-culture.

However, she said that: "I am very hurt by what happened in Siem Reap on the day of the national representative shoot, there were national and international guests, relatives, grandparents and children as witnesses. I am really hurt that they do not value Khmer, they despise our Khmer and despise my people.”

Miss Planet International is an annual international beauty pageant organized by Miss Planet International Organisation, headquartered in Cambodia.

Miss Cambodia placed 27th in the final.

Miss Planet International 2024 was won by Mahra Lutfi from United Arab Emirates, while the newly added title, Angel Planet International 2024, was awarded to Olla Levina from Indonesia.

This year marks the fourth edition of Miss Planet International and the first time in history that two titles were crowned together. The event took place on November 27, 2024, at the Koh Pich Theater, Koh Pich, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.- Khmer Times
