Brunei to host Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards 2024


BNADAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei will host the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards 2024, from December 4 to 7.

The event, organised by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC) in collaboration with the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) and InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB), underscores the nation’s commitment to fostering innovation and technological excellence.

The hosting of this event was announced by Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications Awang Mohammad Nazri Mohammad Yusof as Co-Chair I of the APICTA Awards 2024 Working Committee, during a press conference held at the Brunei Innovation Lab, Knowledge Hub (KHUB) Building, Anggerek Desa Monday.

APICTA Awards, an annual hallmark of innovation and creativity, brings together 17 member economies from the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, the People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The competition recognises the most innovative digital solutions, elevating them to a regional platform to celebrate their impact and potential”, the Permanent Secretary explained.

Awang added that Brunei’s hosting of APICTA 2024 is particularly special as it aligns with the 20th anniversary of the Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA), marking a significant milestone in the nation’s digital journey.

The event returns to Brunei after 12 years, having left an inedible mark when first hosted in 2012 by introducing initiatives that have since become cherished traditions in APICTA events.

The APICTA Awards 2024 competition will feature 35 categories, including sub- categories under Consumer, Community Services & Inclusions, Industrial, Business Services, Public Sector & Government, Students, Cross Categories, and Technology Awards. In addition, a People’s Choice Award will engage the public to vote for their favourites in the Senior Student and Tertiary Student categories.

Acting Assistant Chief Executive, Industry Development, AITI Brunei Darussalam’s representative to APICTA EXCO and APICTA Awards 2024 Secretariat Member Siti Zaraura binti Haji Mohammad also gave an introduction on APICTA.

Various exciting activities are planned throughout the APICTA Awards 2024 event, including Business Networking and Students Networking sessions, where industry players, business professionals and young talent can connect, share ideas and spark innovation.

In conjunction with this Awards event, the Digital Brunei Exhibition, which will also be open to the public from December 4 to 6, at the Atrium, The Mall, Gadong, featuring over 50 booths showcasing various innovations across sectors.
