Cambodia produces almost 13 tonnes of gold dore bars: senior official

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has produced nearly 13 tonnes of dore bars with 90 per cent pure gold solution since commercial mining started in June 2021, a senior official said here on Wednesday (Nov 6).

Ung Dipola, director general of the General Department of Mineral Resources of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, said that currently, 10 companies have been refining gold in Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Kratie, Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear, and Battambang provinces.

"Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) Ltd. in Mondulkiri province received the highest yield of about 12,536kg, while other companies received low yields," he said in Phnom Penh during a press conference on a campaign against illegal mining in northeast Mondulkiri province.

The country started to extract gold for the first time at a gold mining site in Keo Seima district in Mondulkiri province in June 2021.

Renaissance Minerals, a subsidiary of Australia-listed Emerald Resources NL, is the developer of the mining site there. - Xinhua
