SINGAPORE: A 41-year-old man is slated to be charged with murder on Sunday (Sept 8), following the death of a 48-year-old woman at Maxwell Food Centre near Chinatown.

The police said in a statement on Sept 7 that the man was arrested at 1.36am on the same day at the Bukit Merah East Neighbourhood Police Centre after he informed officers there that he had stabbed a woman.

The police added that their officers were then sent to a food centre along Kadayanallur Street, and found the woman lying there motionless.

Maxwell Food Centre is located next to the road.

In response to queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at the food centre at 1.35am.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both parties are known to each other.
