Laos to enhance earthquake monitoring

VIENTIANE: An earthquake data and communications lab has opened in the Lao capital Vientiane, containing modern information systems that will form part of a regional terrestrial network linking data from Vietnam, Thailand and other South-East Asian countries.

The lab is equipped with four display screens, two computers and other devices used for real-time earthquake monitoring, Lao National Radio reported on Friday (Aug 9).

It will use a system that automatically processes real-time earthquake data and provides crucial information such as occurrence time, location, magnitude and depth.

The lab is expected to enhance data management and disaster communication capabilities in Laos, aligning with the country's digital government programme. - Xinhua
