Chicken-and-egg question leads to man’s death in Indonesia

JAKARTA: Which comes first, the chicken or the egg? An argument over this age-old question has caused a man in Indonesia to stab his friend to death, according to the Indonesian police.

The man stabbed 47-year-old Kadir Markus 15 times with a type of dagger called badik on July 24, in a village in Tongkuno district, Muna regency in south-east Sulawesi.

The police said both men were under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The perpetrator, identified with the initials DR, had posed the paradoxical question to Kadir, according to the regency head of criminal investigation unit, La Ode Arsangka.

An argument ensued and moments later, Kadir turned to leave.

However, an upset DR ran home to grab his dagger and stabbed his friend.

Tongkuno police chief Iptu Abdul Hasan confirmed the incident and said the suspect has been arrested.

The police have also seized the weapon and a pair of trousers worn by him.

“The suspect has been charged with murder and faces up to 18 years in prison if convicted,” Abdul Hasan told the Indonesian media. - The Straits Times/ANN
