CLMTV countries to provide better protection for migrant workers in region


HANOI/VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Senior officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam (CLMTV) have discussed ways to better safeguard migrant workers' rights.

According to a report from the Lao Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare on Sunday, Laos hosted the seventh Senior Labor Officials Meeting on the Portability of Social Security Benefits for Migrant Workers in the CLMTV countries, to discuss ways to provide better protection and benefits for migrant laborers.

Speaking at the meeting on Thursday, Deputy Director General of the ministry's Labor Management Department Oudone Maniboun said "Migrant workers play an integral part in both the sending and receiving countries. Our economic security has benefited tremendously from their labor and their security is now in our hands more than ever."

During the meeting, participants discussed ways to better safeguard migrant workers' rights. - Xinhua
