YANGON (Eleven Media Group/ANN): The heatwave in Myanmar is getting worst as some provinces on Friday saw searing heat that hit record numbers.
The highest temperature record was set on May 15 in Kyaukse Province in 25 years and in Heho in 45 years, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
According to the statement, the highest temperature record in Kyaukse town in 25 years went from the old record of 43.2°C to a new record of 43.3°C. In Heho town, the highest temperature record in 45 years was 37.5°C, a new record of 37.8°C.
On May 15, day temperatures were 7°C above May average temperatures in Kachin State, 5°C to 6°C above May average temperatures in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, and Bago regions and Shan (East), Kayin and Mon states 5, 3°C to 4°C above May average temperatures in Yangon, Ayeyawady, and Tanintharyi regions and Shan (North and South) and Rakhine states, and 2°C above May average temperatures in Chin and Kayah states.
The significant day temperatures were 45.8°C in Chauk, 44.6°C in Magway, 44.5°C in Taungdwingyi, 44.3°C each in Tada U (Aviation-Met), Minbu and Aunglan, 44.1°C in Myingyan and 44°C each in Shwebo, Myinmu and NyaungU. - Eleven Media Group/ANN
