Myanmar awaits approval to add traditional Thingyan festival to Unesco lists


YANGON: Myanmar's traditional Thingyan festival (water festival) was submitted to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in March 2023 and the approval comes through at the end of this year, Aye Aye Thin, director of the National Museum (Naypyidaw) told Xinhua on Thursday (March 14).

The Thingyan festival, the most significant annual festival in Myanmar, has been held since ancient times.

The water festival is called Thingyan in Myanmar and is celebrated in the middle of April. - Xinhua
