Ex-Papua governor Lukas Enembe dies at 56

JAKARTA: Former Papua governor and graft convict Lukas Enembe passed away on Tuesday (Dec 26) while receiving treatment at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta. RSPAD chief Lt Gen Albertus Budi Sulistya confirmed Lukas’ death to the press on the same day. He was 56.

“He died at 10:45am local time,” Albertus told reporters. Lukas had been suffering from kidney failure since he was placed under investigation and standing trial for bribery and accepting gratuities. During the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigation and the trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, the former governor had undergone dialysis at the army hospital three times a week.
