HANOI: The Philippines was the largest rice importer of Vietnam in October followed by Indonesia, VnExpress has reported, citing the Vietnam Food Association.
Cote d'Ivoire, in the third position, imported 62,000 tonnes of rice worth US$37.5 million from Vietnam in October, the report said on Tuesday (Nov 21).
Ghana and Malaysia also massively increased imports of Vietnamese rice, reaching 46,470 tonnes and 40,728 tonnes respectively, putting them in the fourth and fifth spots.
Compared to September, the two countries imported 20-30 per cent more rice.
In early November, the prices of Vietnamese export rice soared to the highest level in the past decade. The country's rice export turnover also recorded a new peak in the first 10 months of 2023.
According to the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam exported more than 7.1 million tonnes of rice, worth $4 billion, during the cited period, up 35 per cent in value and 17 per cent in volume year on year. - Xinhua
