Indonesia's Ganjar pledges to develop silica mining, wafer industry for semiconductors if elected president

JAKARTA, Nov 7 (Reuters): The presidential candidate of Indonesia's ruling party said on Tuesday that if elected he would develop the country's silica mining and wafer fabrication industries for semiconductors.

Ganjar Pranowo, who is one of three candidates in next year's election, was speaking at an international relations forum.

In another development, Indonesia raised 2.24 trillion rupiah (US$143.41 million) from an Islamic debt auction, lower than the indicative target of 9 trillion rupiah, its finance ministry said on Tuesday.

Total incoming bids were 15.8 trillion rupiah, higher than the previous auction on October 24 at 8.2 trillion rupiah.

Indonesia on Monday reported solid economic growth in the third quarter, although its pace eased more than expected to its weakest in two years

"We expect Bank Indonesia (BI) to hold the policy rate in the 22-23 Nov meeting, provided that the rupiah maintains its stability in the lead up to the meeting," Maybank said in a note. "Currency depreciation has slowed over the past two weeks, with the rupiah strengthening back to early October levels following the Federal Reserve meeting on Nov. 1," Maybank added. - Reuters
