Three killed in gold mine collapse in Myanmar


YANGON: Three people were killed in the collapse of an abandoned gold mine in central Myanmar's Pyinmana township on Friday evening, the country's fire services department reported.

The fire services department said that they received the report of the mine collapse at around 12:15 p.m. local time on Friday and then launched a rescue operation together with other local rescue organizations, including the township red cross organization.

The abandoned mine, which is located near Welgyi village in Pyinmana township of Nay Pyi Taw, collapsed while the victims were digging in the pit, it said.

All the victims are males, and they were sent to the Pyinmana hospital, an official from the Moe Setana rescue organization said.

Two of the victims died on the spot, and the other one was dead at the hospital, he said. - Xinhua
