BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) was ranked 16th in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Best Small Universities in the World 2023.

Listed universities must teach over four subjects and have fewer than 5,000 students to be eligible for this category. In this regard, UBD is ranked number one in Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, among universities under 50 years old, which is the THE Young University Rankings 2023, UBD was placed second in the region and 68th in the world.

UBD also climbed up to the 301-350 rank in the latest THE World University 2023 Rankings, from the previous year’s 351-400 rank. UBD also rose from 62 to 60 in the THE Asia University Rankings 2023.

In the THE World University Rankings, UBD performed exceptionally well in teaching, research and industry income, demonstrating the university’s high quality of teaching, impact of research conducted as well as its enterprising capabilities.

Meanwhile, UBD was placed 387 globally in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2024 released around the same time.

Rankings can serve as a useful tool in assessing the quality of graduates. UBD regularly reviews its curriculum, developing one that not only prepares graduates for jobs available currently and those which may exist in the future.

The reviews cover areas such as assessment of latest delivery techniques, lifelong learning as well as experiential learning.

The university also seeks international accreditation for programmes it offers to fulfill the students’ and potential employers’ needs.

UBD also broke into the QS Sustainability Rankings last year, demonstrating the impact of the university’s research, especially through collaborations with top partner universities worldwide. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
