BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei’s first local cooking oil was launched by Ghanim International Corporation Sdn Bhd under the bruneihalalfoods brand.

The event was held at the Brunei Food Industry Development (BFID) Multipurpose Facility in Salambigar Industrial Park.

The ceremony was attended by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah.

The launch marked a major milestone for Ghanim adding an essential commodity to their bruneihalalfoods portfolio, reflecting the country’s efforts to strengthen food security.

The cooking oil will be available in retail outlets across the country and is expected to expand to overseas markets.

In his opening remarks, Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nur Rahman said, “Ghanim has evolved and grown to be a key player that contributes to the national aspirations for food security, import substation, food exports and more importantly developing local human capital in the food industry, growing local MSMEs and playing our part in contributing to the growth of the food industry in Brunei Darussalam.”

He said, “We are serious about bringing the best of Brunei to the world, working closely with local MSMEs and government-linked companies to develop, market and promote food products for local and international markets.”

Meanwhile, the company said the cooking oil was developed in collaboration with Western Foods and Packaging Sdn Bhd (WFP) by undergoing extensive research to ensure excellent frying results.

Ghanim has also established brunei food industry development manufacturing facility, which will begin operations this year to support national aspiration of developing the food industry. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
