MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/Asia News Network): The heat index in Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte reached 47°C on Sunday (May 14) afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
According to the state weather bureau, Dipolog City’s heat index climbed to 47°C around 3pm.
Pagasa said a heat index of 42 to 51°C falls under the “danger” category and would likely cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion, while heat stroke is probable with continued heat or sun exposure.
Below are other cities that also recorded dangerous heat indices on Sunday:
Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia), Pasay City (43°C)
Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (42°C)
Dagupan City, Pangasinan (43°C)
Nueva Ecija (43°C)
Tanauan, Batangas (43°C)
Masbate City, Mabate (43°C)
Roxas City, Capiz (42°C)
Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur (42°C)
Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental (42°C)
Davao City, Davao del Sur (42°C)
Butuan City, Agusan del Norte (43°C)
For Monday, Pagasa said the highest heat index of 45°C will also hit Dipolog City, while 10 other cities and provinces are also predicted to reach dangerous heat indices for the rest of the day.
Among these areas are Naia, Pasay City (42°C); Nueva Ecija (42°C); Cavite (42°C); Tanauan, Batangas (42°C); Legazpi City, Albay (43°C); Masbate City, Masbate (42°C); Roxas City, Capiz (42°C); Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Del Sur (42°C); Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental (42°C); and Butuan City Agusan del Norte (43°C).
On May 12, Legazpi City, Albay, recorded the highest heat index in the country so far this year at 50°C.
