SURAKARTA (The Jakarta Post/Asia News Network): The mayor of Surakarta, a city in Indonesia, said on Tuesday (March 7) that local organisers of a concert by British rock band Deep Purple will not provide free tickets for President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo.

The latter, a native of Surakarta in Central Java, is known to be a big fan of the group.

Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is the eldest son of Widodo, said if the President wants to go to the concert, he will have to buy his own ticket.

“No. What do you mean I have to invite him? Everyone has to buy a ticket. If he wants to come, he has to buy his own ticket,” Gibran told reporters in Surakarta on Tuesday.

Deep Purple was formed in 1968 and is widely considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal.

The band will be performing in Surakarta on Friday.
