Continued progress in Brunei-China trade, investment ties says minister


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb 4 (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Cooperation between Brunei and China has continued to progress in various fields including trade and investment.

China continues to play a positive role in promoting the diversification of Brunei’s economy.

The strong bilateral relationship between the two countries was mentioned by Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Mohd Amin Liew Abdullah during the recent 3rd Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor Joint Cooperation Committee (BGEC JCC) meeting.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew also explained that the Muara Port Company Sdn Bhd plays an important role in linking the sub-regional, regional and global markets.

The signing of the upgraded memorandum of understanding(MoU) on cooperation between Brunei and Guangxi will bring more opportunities and will further strengthen cooperation in areas such as aquaculture, downstream oil and gas industries, food, information and info-communications technology (ICT), and tourism, he said.

The meeting witnessed the signing of the “Upgraded Guangxi-Brunei Economic Corridor Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding” and several industrial project cooperation agreements.

Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of China in Brunei Darussalam Wang Haitao spoke on the achievements and the positive role of the economic corridor in strengthening relationship between both countries and injecting vigour to Brunei Vision 2035.

He added that the political mutual trust between the two countries has deepened, with a rapid development in economic and trade cooperation and the joint construction of Belt and Road projects that has yielded remarkable results.

Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China Lan Tianli stressed that Guangxi and Brunei have been enjoying close exchanges since the construction of the economic corridor in September 2014.

The economic and trade cooperation has expanded with a number of key projects to operation.

Ambassador of Brunei to China Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Pahlawan Colonel (Rtd) Dato Paduka Abdu’r Rahmani Dato Paduka Basir expressed that the friendship between both countries has a long history and consider both as valued partners. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
