YANGON (Eleven Media News/Asia News Network): A total of 210 Myanmar migrant workers have arrived back in Kawthaung, Taninthayi Region, after they had been released from detention centres in southern Thailand and deported.
They arrived back in Myanmar by river on Nov 21 via Ranong. They were welcomed back by officials and received medical checks. There were 170 men and 40 women.
“They worked in the southern part of Thailand and Ranong province. They were released from their respective detention centres after serving the sentences they were handed for various reasons.
"They were repatriated to Myanmar via the immigration detention centre (IDC) in Ranong. Labour Attaché U Tin Aung arranged transportation of them to Kawthaung by speedboat via Ranong,” said one of those who welcomed back the deportees.
The Myanmar labour attaché called on Myanmar workers to try to enter Thailand legally as the Pankhin project goes on to issue national registration cards to everyone.
Of the 210 who have arrived back in Myanmar, 69 men and 11 women who have no evidence of being fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will be put in separate quarantine for five days being going back to their respective regions.
Meanwhile, others were sent back on Nov 21.
Thailand is sending back illegal Myanmar migrant workers after punishing them. It is the first deportation of 210 workers in November.
